DESCRIPTION
This highly integrated PWM controller providesseveral special enhancements designed to meet the lowstandby-power needs of low-power SMPS. To minimizestandby power consumption, the proprietary green-modefunction provides off-time modulation to linearlydecrease the switching frequency under light-loadconditions. This green-mode function enables the powersupply to easily meet even the strictest powerconservation requirements.The BiCMOS fabrication process enables reducingthe start-up current to 9uA, and the operating current to3mA. To further improve power conservation, a largestart-up resistance can be used. Built-in synchronizedslope compensation ensures the stability of peak currentmode control. Proprietary internal compensation providesa constant output power limit over a universal AC inputrange (90VAC to 264VAC). Pulse-by-pulse current limitingensures safe operation even during short-circuits.To protect the external power MOSFET from beingdamaged by supply over voltage, the SG6859’s outputdriver is clamped at 17V. SG6859 controllers can be usedto improve the performance and reduce the productioncost of power supplies. The SG6859 is the best choice forreplacing linear and RCC-mode power adapters. It isavailable in 8-pin DIP and 6-pin SOT-26 packages.
